Vilarinho da Furna

The Vilarinho da Furna village once stood in the Gerês mountains, where locals shared land and life in community. Flooded in the 1970s to build a dam, its stone ruins still reappear when the water recedes — silent echoes of a lost world beneath the lake.

Geira Romana

The Geira Romana, built nearly 2,000 years ago, once linked Braga to Astorga in Spain. Still visible near Campo do Gerês, it winds through forests and Roman milestones — a living trace of history in the heart of Gerês.

Mata da Albergaria

The Mata da Albergaria is one of Portugal’s oldest oak forests, crossed by streams and the ancient Geira Romana. Its shaded paths, waterfalls, and autumn colors make it one of the most peaceful and magical places in Gerês.
