Cascada de Pincães

Cascata de Pincães is a hidden gem near the small mountain village of Pincães, close to Fafião. Surrounded by dense oak and pine forest, the waterfall tumbles down a high granite wall into a deep, clear pool — a perfect place for a summer swim. The short walk from the village to the cascade follows a charming path along an old levada (irrigation channel), crossing small bridges and pastures before reaching the secluded gorge. The whole setting feels untouched and peaceful, with the sound of water and birds replacing all other noise. It’s an ideal stop to combine with a visit to Poço Verde or the Miradouro de Fafião, offering a full day of nature and discovery in one of the most authentic corners of Gerês.

HOW TO GET THERE

From Campo do Gerês, drive towards Vilar da Veiga and continue along the scenic road that winds up through the mountains towards Fafião. Before reaching Fafião, follow the signposted turn to the small village of Pincães. The drive takes about 45 minutes in total and offers beautiful views across the valleys and granite peaks. Park at the entrance to the village — the road becomes narrow and cobbled — and follow the trail that starts near the church and runs alongside a levada (traditional water channel). The walk to the waterfall takes around 20–30 minutes each way, through forest and past meadows, with the sound of running water guiding you to the cascade. The final stretch is slightly rocky, but the reward is a quiet, shaded pool perfect for a refreshing swim.
