PR1 – Trilho da Calcedónia
The circular Cidade da Calcedónia trail explores the historic and rugged landscapes of Covide, leading to the remains of an Iron Age fortified settlement later occupied by the Romans. Set among granite cliffs and ancient walls, the route reveals traces of Calcedónia’s past power and mystery.
PR5 - Trilho da Águia do Sarilhão
The Águia do Sarilhão trail begins and ends right at the doorstep of Casa Sulfato, offering an easy circular walk through the valley of the Ribeiro de Rodas in Campo do Gerês. It passes rural hamlets, ancient granaries, and sections of the Roman road Via Nova XVIII, unfolding the history and scenery of the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
PR15 – Bom Jesus do Monte das Mós
The circular Bom Jesus do Monte das Mós trail starts at Casa Sulfato, connecting the villages of Campo do Gerês, Covide, and Carvalheira. This route blends history and landscape, passing the Geira Romana, old bridges, and mountain hamlets, leading to the Bom Jesus das Mós monument overlooking the valleys of the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
Lagoas da Mata da Albergaria
The Lagoas da Mata da Albergaria trail is an easy circular walk through one of Gerês’ most beautiful oak forests. Following stretches of the ancient Geria Romana, it passes crystal-clear streams, cascades, and moss-covered stones. This peaceful route is a perfect hike for families and combines nature and history in the heart of the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
Vilarinho da Furna
The Vilarinho da Furna trail starts at Casa Sulfato and follows the lakeshore toward the legendary submerged village. This easy, scenic route passes the Gemesura waterfall and the tranquil Praia da Quinta da Portelada, offering beautiful views of the reservoir and surrounding mountains — a peaceful half-day walk or bike ride steeped in history and nature.
Picota
The Picota Summit Trail begins at Casa Sulfato, climbing to one of the most breathtaking viewpoints over the Vilarinho da Furna reservoir and the Campo do Gerês valley. The unmarked ascent requires care and sturdy shoes, but rewards are immense. Avoid this trail in fog or bad weather, as visibility and footing can be challenging.
